Aurora Aksnes' earliest musical memory is of finding a piano hidden in the attic of her home, and becoming fascinated with its sounds. Jan Oystein Aksnes was her father. He urged her not to play music only for pleasure or as a means of growth but rather, she was encouraged to take it seriously. The Aksnes family advised her to compose. She acknowledges Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen and Bjork as her main influences. When her mother told her that the songs she composed could be used to not make her famous rather to help individuals to recognize their own value and impact in this world, she started performing them publicly. She began playing the piano at the age of six, and began making music when she was 9 years old. She didn't tell her family about it until she turned fourteen. The dream was never to turn into Aurora. She just loves to write songs. According to her, the music she writes is the way that she feels everything.
